2010-11 Basketball

2010-11 Panini Gold Standard Basketball

Overall Rating: 9/10

Value: 9/10, An expensive box but a lot of good things are being found an even your second or third best card from a box could pull $50-$100

Design: 8/10, The design is nice but can be a bit cluttered at times. The USA set is fantastic looking. Base Autographs with cropped autos don’t look the greatest sometimes but overall a nice new look.

Checklist:  10/10, Amazing selection of Rookies and Legends. The USA Jersey and Autograph inserts with Dream Team members are simply incredible.

Box Price/Layout: $165-$180, 1 pack per box, 12 cards per pack, at least 5 hits per box.

2010-11 Panini Totally Certified Basketball

Overall Rating: 8/10

Value: 7/10, Too expensive for what it brings to the table and the Rookie class it’s working with.

Design: 9/10, Base cards have a great foil finish, good card stock and of course on card autographs for rookies which are awesome in person.

Checklist: 7/10, Decent but could be better. Has all the RC’s you would want though.

2010-11 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball

Overall Rating:  8/10

Value: 8/10, Very much a boom or bust product it doesn’t excite many collectors to blow nearly $100 and be done opening their product in 5-10 seconds. Of course that isn’t so much a critique on this product as it is all high-end but this one sits somewhere between. It isn’t National Treasures but it also isn’t Classics.

Design: 7/10, Not the best but not the worst. A lot of the cards seem a bit busy and the Autographed RC’s would look better with virtually any other design.

Checklist: 8/10, Pretty standard Panini checklist with some retired players that were a bit out of the ordinary and appreciated by collectors.

Box Price/Layout: $90-$100 per tin/pack, 5 cards per tin/pack, 3 hits per tin/pack

2010-11 Panini Prestige Basketball

Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Value: 7/10, The earliest product of the year is the most valuable at it’s earliest. Once other products come out the interest in this set goes to almost nothing. Luckily it also gets considerably cheaper as time goes by and is never all that expensive.

Design: 7/10, They make it look as nice as they can with the pictures they have of this rookie driven product. Unfortunately it isn’t all that appealing to see players in draft night outfits and summer league uniforms when it’s the first product of the year and everyone wants to get their team’s new RC’s. Of course at the time of production those are the only pictures available. The overall design is pretty nice though if you can get past the pictures.

Checklist: 9/10, The first product is loaded with tons of rookies and does not disappoint the collectors looking for even the most obscure undrafted rookies. As with all Panini products this year there is also a shot at pulling a Kobe Bryant or Blake Griffin Autograph which is nice.

Box Price/Layout: $50 per box, 24 packs per box, 4 hits: 2 AUTOS, 2 MEM

2010-11 Panini Threads Basketball

Overall Rating: 6/10

Value: 4/10, Not very good. Boxes will cost you $125-$140 and get you a four hits, two of which are crap game used more than likely. Two autographs including one RC guaranteed is nice but with this rookie class that price per box is insane.

Design: 8/10, On card autographs for the most part including a cool looking RC Autograph parallel. Base set had nice photography but nothing that set it apart from other Panini sets.

Checklist: 8/10, Nothing special, nothing awful.

Box Price/Layout: $125, 24 packs, 2 autos, 2 memorabilia

2010-11 Panini Classics Basketball

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

Value: 9/10, For the box price that is $50 less than Panini Threads you get the same amount of hits on cooler cards with a better checklist? Sign us up!

Design: 10/10, Very cool and clean look to almost all of the base and insert sets. On card autos, not much to complain about here.

Checklist: 9/10, Fantastic retired player checklist. Still can’t touch the Upper Deck autograph checklists of the year but very good compared to most Panini products. The Veteran and RC checklist is as expected but as mentioned earlier we expect good things from them with Kobe, Durant and Griffin exclusive deals.

Box Price/Layout: $75-85, 18 packs, 2 autos, 2 memorabilia with 1 RC Auto guaranteed.

2010-11 Panini Absolute Memorabilia Basketball

Overall Rating: 8/10

Value: 7/10, A complete RC memorabilia autograph set recently sold for around the price of two boxes. Two boxes would normally yield you about 1/10th of the set. Some nice patches of vets and RC’s can be pulled bringing a bit more flavor to the set but it’s another 4 hit product for too high of a price.

Design: 8/10, Nice looking cards with foilboard designs that accentuate the ugly stickers on the RC’s. Lame. Luckily a lot of the insert sets are dynamite looking.

Checklist: 9/10, The usual with some stellar inserts available of veterans that are actually pull-able adds a bit to this product.

Box Price/Layout: $110-$120, 4 packs, 2 autos, 2 memorabilia, every card serial numbered.

2010-11 Panini Playoff Contenders Basketball

Overall Rating: 6/10

Value: 6/10, Definitely a product to buy the singles you want out of. Not a good bust for anything over $70 thanks to the ugly design.

Design: 6/10, The RC Autos this year were patches and boy were they ugly. For Contender’s fans this is not the product you know and love. Manufactured team patch autos belong in another set. The Legend autograph set had a nice design.

Checklist: 8/10, Standard Panini RC Checklist, weak on the rest of the set.

Box Price/Layout: $90-100, 4 hits, 4 autographs with at least one being a Lottery pick.

2010-11 Panini Limited Basketball

Overall Rating: 9/10

Value: 7/10, Limited seems to be losing it’s resale value in both Basketball and Football. RC Autographs from “Leaf” Limited used to be one of the top cards of a player available. The secondary market doesn’t seem to have much love for it anymore. This is more because of high end products being in abundance making Limited a medium level between the common collector and the high end type of folks.

Design: 10/10, They look great and the Next Day RC Autographs are a good looking addition. For the most part this product delivers on card autos.

Checklist: 9/10, Panini’s usual. Solid.

Box Price/Layout: $65-75 per box/pack, 7 card per pack, three hits with one guaranteed autograph.
