1. Follow both of our twitter accounts @cardgeeksblog and @brentrschultz
2. Tweet to either one explaining why you want a certain autograph we pulled
3. Comment on this article with how much money you saved by getting one of these free from us after searching for the autograph on eBay.

Box Break: 2011-12 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey
Nov 15th
As promised here is our break of 2011-12 Upper Deck Series 1. It was as awesome as we had hoped for. Let’s get the break and review started.

Inserts
The UD Canvas cards that fall 1:6 packs are very nice looking in person and the stock is awesome. Hockey Heroes are a nice idea but the design is really boring and could have been spruced up with a less busy look and the same stock as the canvas. EA Ultimate Team cards are cool if you’re into video games…sort of. All World Team is another weak looking insert you get tossed into your box for “added value”. Overall the inserts are saved by the Canvas cards but not entirely. 7/10
Parallels
We’d love to write about Exclusives and High Gloss but we didn’t pull any. Rest assured they are a nice addition as always. It was slightly dissapointing to not get an Exclusives as it seems like every other box we have seen opened resulted in one despite the 1:48 odds they are listed at. 10/10
Game Used/Autographs
Falling two per box we hit two. They were both lame, plain jersey cards. To make it less lovable we hit our favorite team of the St. Louis Blues (Chris Stewart) but of course it had a maroon Avalanche swatch on it. While we didn’t hit an autograph the design of them is downright hideous anyway. The checklist is pretty weak as well. The jersey card swatches are very tiny but the design is solid despite it’s typical UD look. 6/10
Rookies (Young Guns)
At 1:4 packs you know you’re going to land six Young Guns in a box. This year’s checklist is particularly solid for Young Guns with about a dozen players getting $15 or more for their RC. You can also hit a Young Gun Canvas Parallel at a rate of 1:48 packs. We did not hit one of those however we did do well with our Young Guns.
The first four YG’s weren’t so hot. They got a little bit better with the next one.
Last but not least we hit what everyone opening Series 1 hopes for…Ryan Nugent Hopkins!
2011-12 OPC O-Pee Chee 2 Box Break With a Giveaway!
Oct 14th
We did VERY well on this break. Our first hockey box break EVER!
First off we have the beards 1:9 packs. Great idea for a parallel. We hit 8 as we should.

Next we got a lot of retros (72 Total), I’ve only got the scan of this one from the Blues I have kept out for my PC. No blank backs in either box. You can also see a Marquee Legends

Then we have the 10-11 Rookie Update Cards 1:9, we hit 8 as we should have. In this scan you also have Trophy Winners which were one per box.

OPC Foil/Rainbow cards fell 1:4 packs however we only recieved 16 of the 18 the odds call for.

We got one “In Action” per box. Neither was an SP.

We got one 10-11 OPC Update RC Retro per box as the odds establish.

We got 6 Black Rainbow Parallels #’d /100, two of which were PC!

Box 1 gave us an autograph, which means we already killed the odds as the autos only fall 1:212 packs. To make it better we got a Mattias Tedenby who is an SP at 1:307 packs.

Box 2 gave us ANOTHER AUTOGRAPH! :champs: This time a Team Canada Autograph which are one per case and we pulled an SP of this too! 1:944 packs!

Now for the giveaway! All you need to do is like our page on Facebook (see the link in the sidebar) and then send us a message via Facebook with what team you collect and we’ll send you every card we pulled of that team with the exception of the St. Louis Blues and the Autographs that were pulled. If you don’t want to do that you can also send us $2 paypal to cardgeeks@gmail.com with the team you want and we’ll ship you everything we pulled of that team. Thanks for looking and stay tuned for more breaks. This was a blast!
2010 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks Box Break: “Eh”
Jul 27th
There have certainly been much worse boxes broken of this product. The main source of my dissapointment was the lack of colored refractors.
Here is what I pulled:
Autograph: Yasmani Grandal, C, Reds
Refractors: Eric Young Jr. RC, Jameson Taillon Prospect, Gary Brown Prospect
Base Bowman Parallels: Daniel Nava Blue /399
Not a single international, my only numbered card was the Nava. Not an exciting bust to say the least. All of the base and inserts will be added to the list of cards my readers can request for free HERE.
There are plenty of autographs I would have liked less than Grandal and I’ve always been a Hurricane fan so this doesn’t hurt to bad to pull a $10-15 autograph from an $80 box. I would have been happier with this.
I was rather disappointed when I discovered he has a chrome autograph in the exact same set. Usually Topps waits at least one more set release to screw over the value of their base chromes, apparently not in 2010.
I had never heard of Gary Brown until the night before my break when people were going off about him on Twitter. That made it a bit cooler to pull this card but I must say the bitterness of not even pulling a veteran colored or xfractor was a bummer. The different colors are the entire reason I open this product. I’m not a big case buster so I won’t be putting together 20 count lots of chrome RC’s to sell so most of the value from these types of breaks is lost on me. Also I was extra bummed to find out he has an autograph in the same set just like Taillon. The value of a chrome and it’s many parallels is sinking quickly with most players having RC Autographs.
Anyway, I did my part on this one by breaking baseball which I don’t normally do. On to hockey, which product should I break?
2010 Topps Football Jumbo Box
Jul 14th
Got a nice price on this box but it still wasn’t worth it. I was hoping for a Rookie Premiere autograph of course.
Jumbo Odds: 2 Autos and 1 Relic
I recieved: 2 Autos and 1 Relic
Also Pulled:
9 Topps Gold Parallels /2010
I didn’t do so well on these. Two Joseph Addai’s and two checklists. Ouch. Would have loved a black, platinum or printing plate obviously.
Tons of inserts. These packs are ridiculously thick. It is hard to resist flipping to the middle where all of the inserts are every time I open one.
That’s it! Didn’t get any better parallels or any of the Variation SP RC’s unfortunately.
There is a lot of awesome stuff to be pulled from this product but I didn’t really get much of a taste. Makes me want to do a master set of it though that’s for sure! The autograph checklist is massive. Just look at the 75th anniversart Draft Autograph set:
